Water is the foundation of our cultivation. That’s why at ACRES we handle it with care. We focus on innovative solutions to use water smartly, purify it, and reuse it. This way, we reduce our environmental impact and contribute to circular greenhouse horticulture.
Collective wastewater treatment
Together with Westland growers, we purify our wastewater through the Westland Water Treatment Cooperative. The water from our locations goes to the AWZI Nieuwe Waterweg in Hoek van Holland, where it is thoroughly cleaned of organic waste and crop protection residues. This prevents harmful substances from entering the environment and enables reuse as irrigation water.
Smart water sharing
Our Hill, Spark, Spring, and Stream locations are interconnected with rainwater pipelines. This allows us to exchange rainwater: excess at one location, shortage at another? We easily supplement from the shared system. This prevents waste and ensures balance, even during dry periods.
Every drop counts
We collect rainwater on our greenhouses and store it in large basins. Through drip irrigation, each plant receives exactly what it needs. The remaining water is collected, purified, and reused. Thanks to this closed system, almost no water is lost. Moreover, we participate in Rainlevelr, a project where growers and the water board collaborate to store rainwater smartly and prevent water problems.
