At ACRES, we don’t treat CO₂ as waste but as a valuable resource for growth. We directly use the CO₂ released during energy generation in our CHP units (Combined Heat and Power) in our greenhouses. This provides our tomato and cucumber plants with an additional source for photosynthesis, while reducing emissions outside the greenhouse.

Plants need CO₂ to grow; it is the fuel for photosynthesis. By reusing this CO₂, we help close the loop. No resource is lost. This not only supports stronger plants and higher yields but also significantly reduces our overall emissions.

In addition to the CO₂ from our own CHP units, we also use captured CO₂ from the Port of Rotterdam. Through the OCAP network (Organic Carbon Dioxide for Assimilation by Plants), this CO₂ is delivered directly into our greenhouses. As a result, industrial CO₂ is prevented from entering the atmosphere and instead gains a second life as a resource for crop growth.
