Roots and ACRES are joining forces and moving forward together

Ambitious about horticulture?

Press Release, October 2, 2026

Roots and ACRES, both leading companies in greenhouse horticulture, are joining forces and will continue together under the name ACRES. “With this step, we are strengthening our position and expanding to a future-proof cultivation area of 64 hectares,” said Juri van Es of ACRES.

Roots specializes in the cultivation of mini-cluster cherry tomatoes. The company was founded in 2020 following a merger between two family-owned businesses: the Van der Knaap family from Honselersdijk and the Oussoren family from Zevenhuizen. The Zevenhuizen location was recently sold, and the next step now involves the 14.5-hectare site in Honselersdijk.

ACRES is a modern greenhouse horticulture company in the Westland region, specializing in the cultivation of tomatoes and cucumbers. The company was formed in 2024 through a merger between Lanstomaten, Green2Grow, G.J. van der Wel, and Prominent’s joint growing operations. Operating from multiple locations, the organisation is committed to efficient and forward-looking cultivation, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and being a good employer.

The partnership between Roots and ACRES has a long history. Both companies have been active in the horticulture sector since the middle of the last century and have been working together for many years. For example, they are both members of the Prominent growers’ association, and both companies market their products through the Growers United growers’ cooperative. Furthermore, Roots has been involved as a co-shareholder since ACRES was founded. “This long-standing partnership has fostered the confidence that we have found in each other the right partner to continue building the future together,” says Luc van der Knaap of Roots.

With this merger, ACRES is expanding into a company with 64 hectares of modern greenhouse facilities. As part of the new organisation, Luc van der Knaap will join the management team at ACRES. For Richard and Marcel van der Knaap, Jasper, and Stefan Oussoren, this step marks the conclusion of a successful and rewarding period at Roots. They are confidently handing the company over to the new organisation. Richard will remain associated with the company as a consultant for the foreseeable future.
